A Bit About Roxanne pompilio
I work as a High School History-Social Science teacher, and more recently Graphic Design teacher, as well as serve as the Digital Teacher Leader at the School of Creative and Performing Arts in San Diego (SCPA). Currently, I teach tenth grade World History by Design and Advanced Placement World History. As a veteran teacher and teacher leader, I lead teachers in professional development to implement a Common Core Action Plan, design cross-curricular units and lessons, integrate technology into the classroom, and collaborate interdepartmentally.
At the district level, I actively participate in professional learning communities in the areas of curriculum design and educational technologies to assist me in differentiating instruction and integrating educational technologies in the classroom. While at SCPA, I have had the opportunity to participate as a Fulbright scholar in Morocco where I collaborated with other teachers to integrate the history of Northern Africa into the curriculum.
Before my career in education, I worked as a Program Manager for Student Legal Services at the University of California, San Diego, as well as a Scuba Diving Instructor for Campus Recreation. I also completed my graduate work at UCSD in Political Science, with an emphasis on Comparative Politics and East European studies. I spent a year on an Education Abroad Program in Budapest, Hungary from 1989 to 1990, which instilled a passion for history and desire to become an educator.
I am married, have a pet red-tail boa, enjoy travel, fitness, and cooking. I especially enjoy Indian, Moroccan, Hungarian, and Mexican cuisine.
